Ancient Kauri Wood Key of D Native American Style Flute
A stunning and truly ancient wood instrument! Uniquely crafted Native style flute in the key of Mid/Low Dm. Made from a strikingly marbled piece of beautiful ancient Kauri wood with walnut and leopardwood. Kauri is a magical and beautiful ancient wood from New Zealand. These massive Kauri trees were felled by storms 50,000 years ago, at the end of the last ice age and are the oldest workable wood in existence. These immense conifers, some 20 feet in diameter, remained buried in the peat undisturbed, until recent times. They are dug out of the ground to be repurposed in many different ways, from furniture to art, to musical instruments such as this Native American style flute! The land is restored to it's original contours after harvesting. Kauri trees still grow in New Zealand. The wood itself is incredibly iridescent with a warm and rich glow.
The bird/block has a walnut core with leopardwood, and sits on an inlaid leopardwood nest. The fully tenioned end caps are of highly figured leopardwood with bands of walnut. The flute sports a colorful abalone cabochon inlaid just above and below the playing holes that serve as the center of my signature, hand burned "morning star" design. The stylized bird/block is secured with a piece of elk hide lace.
This lovely flute has a warm, inviting, mellow tone that and strongly projecting voice. It has fantastic action for a lower key flute, and is a real player's flute! The overall length is 26". Bore is approximately 1".
All of our flutes are currently provided with a hand sewn fleece draw string bag for protection.

*All Tree of Life Flutes are electronically tuned for accuracy. Each is individually voiced for strength and quality of the sound as well as playability. They feature a modest back pressure, play well softly but especially love to be pushed. Each flute I make comes with my concern for your satisfaction in mind.
