About me:
Hello, my name is Ed Dougherty. I am a craftsman/hobbiest. Currently I live in Central North Carolina with my beautiful wife and two young adult children. We share our home with our beloved family pets, Yogi a great Dane, Max a hound dog mix, and Molly, a big tabby cat that rules the roost. Besides being a husband and a father, I am fortunate to have a very rewarding professional career in the Welding Industry and to be actively involved in Scouting.
I love working with my hands and feel most fulfilled when I have a creative project to turn to. Over the years I have dabbled with many different artistic endeavors but most enjoy working with wood. Whether carving or crafting nothing else speaks to me like the look, feel and smell of wood. I appreciate the natural beauty and diversity of wood and consider it a most wonderful gift of Nature. I am constantly experimenting with wood and learning from it as my craft evolves.
About Tree of Life:
The tree of life is a mystical concept, a metaphor for common descent or a motif in various world theologies, mythologies and philosophies. The Branches of the tree reach high into the heavens. The roots dig deep into the earth. Yet all are woven together, signifying the connection between all things in the Heavens and the Earth. Trees provide sustenance and habitat for people and animals. They are a source of healing medicinal extracts. Their wood provides materials to build shelter as well as fires for preparing nourishing meals, warming the body on a frigid night, or engaging in spiritual rituals.
Trees also represents Mother Earth's Bounty and the eternal cycle of the seasons. The Tree of Life is a symbol of the individuals quest for spiritual fulfillment . "Tree of Life Designs" is a true back yard business, a cottage industry that represents the fruits of my work. I feel truly blessed to be able to create and find it a fulfilling force in my life.
